Dr. Rothman

Dr. Jeffery Rothman is a skilled Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who is proud to continue the legacy of excellence started by his father, Gerald Rothman DDS, who founded their practice here in Alexandria in 1979. Having grown up in the area and working at the practice during his youth, Dr. Rothman always knew he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and join the family business. He finds great joy in interacting with patients and appreciates the small family office atmosphere.

Dr. Rothman earned his BA degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and subsequently obtained his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland. He then pursued his training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, completing the rigorous four-year program. To remain up-to-date with the latest developments in his field, Dr. Rothman attends oral surgery and dental conferences across the country. Additionally, he has led a Spear Education Study Club with his dental colleagues for over 10 years.

Dr. Rothman enjoys the unique challenge that every patient brings, as each individual presents with distinct issues and problems. He recognizes that no two patients are alike, whether in terms of personality or dentition. As the practice tends to see patients at a low point in their lives, such as after a traumatic accident or when faced with a possibly cancerous lesion in their mouth, Dr. Rothman derives great satisfaction from being able to help patients through this difficult time and hopefully provide them with better than expected outcomes.

Outside of work, Dr. Rothman enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, running, mountain biking, and kayaking on the Potomac River. He also enjoys traveling and experiencing new cuisines with his wife and two children.

Dr. Rothman is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Why choose a board-certified oral surgeon?

Choosing an oral surgeon can seem like a daunting task. But when you narrow the list down to only those who are board-certified, the choice quickly becomes clear.

Board-certified oral & maxillofacial surgeons must undergo additional education before passing a rigorous, peer-reviewed exam to gain their certification. In addition, the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) requires that all members maintain their certification by completing yearly exams to ensure they are continually engaged in the advancement of their skills and knowledge.

In short: board-certified oral surgeons are true modern experts in their field, and choosing one for your oral health needs is the surest way to ensure you are receiving the best care possible.

Advanced technology

Better care for you

CBCT Scanner

Cone-beam computed tomography, or CBCT, scans allow us to see a 3D image of your mouth, jaw and all underlying structures and tissues for more accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

Trios 3Shape Intraoral Scanner

Intraoral scanners are handheld devices that are used to create a digital model of your teeth and gums. This allows us to create digital impressions (no goop!) and create 3D treatment plans so you can see what your smile will look like after completing your procedure.

CO2 Laser

Laser therapy is less invasive than traditional methods, which makes for less healing time, and more accurate and efficient soft-tissue surgeries.

PRF & PRP

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapies are an innovative way to accelerate your body’s natural healing abilities using materials created from your own blood.

PiezoSurgery Ultrasonic Handpieces

Our handpieces are ultra-quiet, and ultra-efficient. That means no loud dental drills and more comfortable, less invasive treatments for you.

Planmeca 3D Surgical Planning Software

3D surgical planning allows us to fine-tune your treatment to your unique needs and physiology. This minimizes the risk of complications and results in better outcomes for our patients.

Guided Implant Surgery

Guided implant surgeries combine CBCT data, intraoral scans, and modern 3D printers to create customized surgical guides. This allows your surgery to be more precise and accurate so you can trust your treatment with full confidence.

Community Outreach

At Alexandria Oral Surgery, we are committed to making a positive impact on our community, both in and out of the office. As part of this commitment, we make an annual donation to the Capital Area Food Bank. In addition, Drs. Rothman and Vincent Nguyen-Cao also volunteer their time and expertise at the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic, providing donated care to those in need. This clinic serves as a vital healthcare resource for the indigent population of Northern Virginia, and we are honored to be a part of this effort to improve access to dental care for all members of our community.
